What a Difference a Month Makes!

My last blog entry was just around a month ago -- the ground was still pretty much bare. Today,
there are blooms galore: tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinths, hyacinths, forget me nots, brunera,
trillium, virginia blue bells, wild garlic, ground ivy, trout lilies, columbines, etc.

A number of plants which appeared to thrive last summer have mysteriously disappeared over the course of the winter. A few bleeding hearts are no longer. A particularly lush clump of violets has disappeared. A large clump of brunera has been reduced to a few puny leaves and the patch of toad lilies which had the bizarre blooming times last year haven't come back. I wonder if it's always like this or if having been super aware of the contents of the garden last year because of the blogging has simply made the absences more notable.

Wow! It's hard to believe the changes over just a month. The wonder of nature... Maybe the missing things just need a little more time. Cheers!

Avis: Thanks -- I won't completely give up hope that the missing plants will come up a little behind schedule. On the positive side, there will be room either for the existing plants to grow bigger & stronger or for some interesting specimens I spotted at the nursery recently...

Hello there kd ! I'm sorry it has been such a while since I have visited (I have to make sure I have you on my blog's blog list !)
I'm wondering about a plant next to my neighbor's house .. it reminds me a bit of wild ginger by the leaf shape but I'm thinking it is probably a naughty weed .. I'll try and get a picture of it today so perhaps you can take a look and tell me what you think it is ?
Your garden is looking very pretty ! .. and yes .. I know what you mean about disappearing and diminishing plants .. jeez !

Joy: Glad to be touch again -- this winter hibernation thing (as far as the garden goes) wreaked havoc with my blogging participation :)

Let me know when you've got a photo of the mystery plant. Conincidentally, I did spend some time this winter on a plant identification website which, if everything goes well, I'll try to make available on line within the next month or so.

You have lots of colour in your May garden. Your bulbs are livening up the whole backyard. It might be too early to do the final plant tally. Maybe some plants are just laggards. We've had a late spring, and some of my slow poke plants are still waiting for steadier temperatures to emerge.
