The Best Mother's Day Gift Ever!

A small part of Urban Wilderness is going to be experiencing some structure, namely (sort of) straight rows of veggies!

My kids prepared this small patch for me to plant vegetables in today. They worked the soil to a depth of close to a foot, I think, removing tons of roots and stones and adding some fresh topsoil and compost. It had started out looking like the ground towards the top of the photo.

I'm not sure if there will be enough sun for vegetables to grow well, but I'm really looking forward to trying.

Thanks N & N!!!

I love a garden. And I love what you are doing. Wish I could be better in the yard.

@Rebecca: Thanks! I, too, wish I could be better in the yard -- more disciplined and patient at the very least. As it is, recommended plant spacing is ignored consistently, watering spotty (that's what rain is for), and plants commonly thought of as weeds nurtured because I like them.
The vegetable plot is a case in point -- it already has way too many things planted in it. Luckily the terms "companion planting", "succession planting", and "garden experiment" serve as good excuses :) /k.
